Obituary for Norman H. Petersen
Norman H. Petersen, 83, of Ute, Iowa died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa. The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Marcus Manley officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation will be Monday, June 27 after 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com.
Norman Herbert Petersen was born on April 30, 1933, the son of Herbert and Helen (Kragel) Petersen. He moved with his family to Danbury, Iowa where he started his education in a country school from 1937 to 1939. In 1940, they moved to the present family farm near Ute where Norman farmed right up until this past harvest.
He served his country in the United States Navy from December 2, 1952 until December 1, 1956. He was honorably discharged and returned home to continue in his career in agriculture.
Norman was a long time active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, having served in most all capacities. Just this year he was elected and accepted the office of President of the church congregation and later resigned for health reasons. Norman was a common man with a sincere dedication to his faith. He was well respected in the community at large.
Those family members surviving Norman are his sister, Joyce Mordhorst and her husband, Duane of Ute, Iowa and their five children, Norman’s nieces and nephews and their spouses, Mike and Becky Mordhorst of Ute, Gina and George Hull of Moorhead, Iowa, Pam and Dan Martin of Denison, Iowa, Nancy and Bob Miller of San Antonio, Texas, and John and Maria Mordhorst of Centerville, Virginia; and great nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents.
