Eva Mae Schumacher was born September 1, 1925, at Ticonic, Iowa, the daughter of James and Dorothy (Ultch) Castle. She grew up in the area, one of eleven children in the family. After graduating from high school at Castana, Iowa, Eva moved to Sioux City where she found employment. It was there that she met her future husband.

On August 23, 1947, Eva was united in marriage to Paul James Schumacher at Remsen, Iowa. The couple lived in the Remsen area for six years before moving to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They lived there for over 42 years where they truly loved watching their family grow. Along with caring for her family, Eva enjoyed “demoing” products at local major grocery stores. Paul and Eva also enjoyed dancing. After Paul’s retirement, the couple moved to Mapleton, Iowa to be near family and “enjoy small town life.” At that time Paul and Eva also enjoyed going camping with their family. Eva was known as the lady who just loved talking to ANYONE! The most profound love in her life, however, was found in her family, her grandchildren, and the growing number of great grandchildren. Paul passed away November 17, 2009.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Lynn Schumacher and his wife, Bette of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Rodd Lee Schumacher of Centerville, South Dakota; three daughters and their husbands, Linda and Terry Rosseter of Omaha, Nebraska, Terri and John McDonald of Pearland, Texas and Debra Nakata of Chandler, Arizona; 17 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; four brothers, Harold Castle of Tabor, South Dakota, Les Castle and his wife, Jan, of Mapleton, Iowa, Jim Castle of Smithland, Iowa, and Gary Castle and his wife, Betty of Mapleton, Iowa; and one sister, Darlene Williams of California; along with many other extended family members.

Along with her beloved husband, Paul, Eva was preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, Andy Nakata; four brothers, George, Floyd, Russ, and Art Castle; one sister, Ada Habinck; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Castle and Josephine Castle; and one brother-in-law, Joe Williams.
