Alice Mae (Denker) Jensen was born October 8, 1932, on the family farm near Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Hugo and Violet (Leitner) Denker. She grew up in the area and graduated from Denison, High School with the class of 1954. She then attended Morningside College in Sioux City and graduated with a teaching certificate.ξ
After teaching at other area schools, Alice accepted an offer to teach 2nd grade at the Danbury School in Danbury, Iowa. It was during this time that she met Ron Jensen of Danbury. They were married eight years later on July 28, 1963, at the Methodist Church in Denison. On July 28, 2013, Ron and Alice celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
In the early years of their marriage, the couple lived in Sioux City where Ron worked. Their first daughter Kimberly was born there in 1965. When Ron's work moved the family to Omaha, they also welcomed the birth of their second daughter, Karla, in 1969.ξ
Then as a stay at home mom, Alice continued to utilize her teaching skills by volunteering at the girl's grade school at least once weekly, teaching reading and math to students in need. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader with her daughter's troop and was very involved in their lives in general.ξ
As members of the Hanscom Park United Methodist Church, Ron and Alice donated their time and talent to all church activities. Alice taught preschool there in the 1980's and served as the Sunday School Superintendent there for years. She was also very active in the United Methodist Women and their causes along with holding multiple offices in the organization. In later years, she even volunteered visitation time with homebound church members.
Ron and Alice took specializedξ home care of their daughter, Kim, for 13 years after she was stricken with a terminal diagnosis. Along with her twenty-four seven care, they loved caring for Karla and Dan's two children until they went to kindergarten. They did this all with total love and devotion to their family. Kim passed away May 25, 2003.
Alice enjoyed time in her garden and caring for her flowers. She also was an avid reader. Like most ladies, Alice liked to go clothes shopping and it showed in her neat appearance. She also liked going with Ron to his activities with his pilot friends. Ron passed away March 5, 2014.
Family members left to embrace their loving memories of Alice are her daughter, Karla Hamlett and her husband, Dan of Omaha, Nebraska; her two grandchildren, Garrett and Jillian Hamlett; and one brother, Bob Denker of Denison, Iowa.
Along with her daughter, Kimberly, and husband, Ron, Alice was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Hugo Denker; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Nellie Jensen..
