Dennis W. "Denny" Amundson, 68, of Ute, Iowa and formerly of Soldier, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Services will be Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa. Pastor Joel Gueningsman will officiate. Burial will be St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be at the Soldier Lutheran Church Wednesday, September 2 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute, Iowa has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Dennis William Amundson was born March 10, 1947, at Onawa, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Gladys (Gantz) Amundson. He grew up on the farm near Soldier, Iowa where he first attended school. The family moved to Ute, Iowa in 1963. Denny graduated from Charter Oak-Ute High School with the class of 1965. After high school, he worked with heavy equipment on road construction. ξWhile still in high school at East Monona, Denny met Cheryl Hull of Moorhead, Iowa. They were married March 15, 1969, at the Moorhead Christian Church. The couple have shared 46 happy years together. Denny and Cheryl first lived in Omaha where he worked as a shipping clerk in the warehouse for General Electric, a job he enjoyed for over 20 years. Upon that job being eliminated and the declining health of his mother, Denny moved back to Ute. Cheryl maintained her job at the phone company and continued to live in Omaha. Denny completed a computer training class during that time and worked helping local farmers, especially Bubba Goslar. After the death of Denny's mother and his own declining health over the years, Cheryl took early retirement and they sold their home in Omaha and she moved home to Ute in 2002. In recent years, much time has been devoted to the care of Denny's health. In good times, his passion was his cars, drag races and running the quarter mile. Among his select vehicles, Denny's favorite was his black '57 Chevy. He and Cheryl loved entering and attending car shows. He also enjoyed fishing in South Dakota where a few "Master Anglers" were discovered. He also enjoyed camping with his pick up, hunting, playing cards, Euchre tournaments, and his red bronco. Denny really loved being able to help farmers and also loved the dogs they had in their homes over the years. Those left to embrace their memories of Denny are his wife, Cheryl; his mother-in-law, Lucille Hull of Denison, Iowa; his sister-in-law and brother -in-law, Janice and Merlin Arnold also of Denison; a sister-in-law, Debbie Hull of Alta, Iowa; a brother-in-law, John Hadden of Castana, Iowa; nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews; along with many good friends and neighbors; and his brittany spaniel and good buddy, Lucy Lu. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arlen Amundson: his parents Arnold and Gladys Amundson; his father-in-law, Frank Hull; a brother-in-law, Terry Hull; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Hadden.
