Obituary for Wayne R. Hinkley
Wayne R. Hinkley, 67, of Queen Creek, Arizona and formerly of Ida Grove, Lake City and Sioux City, Iowa passed away surrounded by his family, Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Services will be Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux City with Pastor Ralph Shorey officiating. A time for sharing fellowship and food will follow the service at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Wayne Ray Hinkley was born November 19, 1947, at Sioux City the son of Raymond and Evelyn (Ehler) Hinkley. When he was just an infant the family moved to a farm near Ida Grove. He grew up there and graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1966. He then attended Muscatine Community College. He worked at Highline Poultry Farm along with other jobs. He later worked at Squealer Feed Company in Des Moines. On January 24, 1969, Wayne was united in marriage to Susan Rae Clark at the Methodist Church in Lake City, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Corinne and Darcy. The family moved to Ida Grove, Iowa where they first rented a farm and eventually moved onto the family farm. Wayne was employed at a feed mill in the area. Soon an opportunity presented itself in a Culligan dealership in Lake City, Iowa. Susan worked at the business which they later bought and operated in Sioux City as Kinetico of Siouxland for 34 years. After their son's graduation, they left Lake City and bought a home in Sioux City. Wayne was able to find a partner just a few years ago which allowed him and his wife to move to Arizona where he dealt with multiple health issues. When life allowed, Wayne enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, riding jeeps in the desert, and spending time at the gun range. He also loved to play pool and go boating. Whatever Wayne did, he did it full force. Wayne volunteered his time to the Juvenile Diabetes Association where he served as President for the Cure for Juvenile Diabetes. He also was active in the Homebuilders Association and multiple other civic organizations. "He poured himself into whatever he did." ξSurvivors left to cherish their memories of Wayne are his wife, Susan Hinkley of Queen Creek, Arizona; his mother, Evelyn Hinkley of Davenport, Iowa; a daughter Corinne Hinkley of Queen Creek, Arizona and her children, Jordan McKinney of Queen Creek, Kyle McKinney in the military at Naples, Italy, and Noah McKinney of Queen Creek; a son, Darcy Hinkley and his wife, Dorothy of Granite Bay, California and their children, Evelyn and Adam Hinkley at home; and two sisters and their husbands, Carol and Harold Jensen of Mapleton, Iowa and Faye and John Kunz of Davenport, Iowa.
