Obituary for Donna Rae (Weathers) Hanson
Donna Rae (Weathers) Hanson, 90 of Anthon, Iowa passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015, at her home in Anthon surrounded by her family. The funeral service will be Monday, July 20, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Anthon with Pastor Janet Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon. Visitation will be at the church Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. followed by an Eastern Star service. Armstrong Funeral Home of Anthon has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. ξDonna Rae (Weathers) Hanson was born in Anthon on October 16, 1924, to Merritt and Hepsibeth (Plato) Weathers. Donna grew up in Anthon, graduating from Anthon High School in 1942 and continued her education at St. Joseph's Nursing School in Sioux City, graduating in 1945. After graduation she was employed as a Supervisor at the Alta Hospital. In 1946 she married Marvin Hanson, her high school sweetheart, and they lived in Alta until moving to a farm west of Anthon in 1948. In 1964 the family moved into Anthon. Donna worked as a nurse at Sioux Valley Medical Clinic in Anthon and also helped Marvin at the Locker Plant. She was a member of the Anthon United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women's Society. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star where she was a Past Matron and 50-year member. She was a member of the Sunnyside Card Club. Hobbies included crocheting, where she brought home many blue ribbon awards, and gardening. ξ She is preceded in death by her parents, and an infant brother. Surviving her are her loving husband, Marvin, 4 children; Barbara (Mike) Wood of Sioux City, Clifford (Arlene) of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Janet (John) Boehm of Ankeny and Dale (Wendy) of Centennial, Colorado, 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Also surviving is a brother, Dick Weathers, of Aurelia, and sister, Doris (Manuel) Matsunami, of Omaha, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Anthon United Methodist Church or the ESTARL (Eastern Star Training Awards for Religious Leadership). ξ ξ
