Obituary for Norman E. Gosch
Norman E. Gosch, 83, of Ute, Iowa died Friday, June 26, 2015, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa. The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Marcus Manley officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute with military graveside honors provided by the American Legion Aaby Post #442 and the VFW Post #5605 both of Ute. Visitation will be at the church Monday, June 29 after 4:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute. Norman Erhard Gosch was born November 8, 1931, on a farm in rural Ute, Iowa. He was the son of Erhard and Minna (Meyer) Gosch. Norman was baptized December 13, 1931 and confirmed April 14, 1946, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute where he remained a lifelong member. He also attended St. Paul Lutheran School at Ute. ξAfter helping the family on the farm, Norman enlisted into the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War from December 1951 to May 1953. He was stationed at Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands where he worked in the PX. During his service there, he witnessed the explosion of the H Bomb, an event he often spoke of years later. After his honorable discharge, Norman returned home. At St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak on June 26, 1955, God joined Norman Gosch and Shirley Goslar in marriage and upon his death June 26, 2015, God temporarily parted the loving couple on their 60th wedding anniversary. Norman and Shirley first farmed with his parents and soon bought their own farm where they worked and raised their three children. Norman also did custom corn picking and baling. After retiring from farming they moved in to Ute and he worked for Berne Coop. As a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Norman served as an Elder as well as a Trustee and was an usher for many years. He was a member of the VFW Post # 5605 and the American Legion Aaby Post #442 where he was a past Commander. He was on the committee that first established the ever so patriotic Avenue of Flags at St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Sports was a lifelong interest to Norman. In support of his family, he attended as many of his kids and grandkids sporting events that time allowed. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed going to the Ute Tractor Pull and the Albert City threshing events. He liked doing word search books by the dozens along with eating cashews by the can full. He liked antiques and had a special passion for his F-20 tractor which was his pride and joy. Above all, Norman loved life and was a friend to all. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and it warmed his heart when the little ones called him "Pa Pa Great". The whole family thoroughly enjoyed a group vacation to Branson, Missouri in celebration of Norman and Shirley's 50th wedding anniversary. Those family members left to lovingly cherish their memories of Norman include Shirley, his wife of 60 years; one son and his wife, Brad and Mary Gosch of Dow City, Iowa and their children, Eurisha Brauhn and her husband, Steve and their children Nevaeh and Beau, Amanda Burhoop and her special friend, Curt Douding and their son, Blaine, and Landon Burhoop and his wife Julie and their daughter, Triniti; two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Warren Nepper of Ute, Iowa and Becky "Shock" and Rod Kunze of Charter Oak, Iowa and their children, Aubry and Karly; one brother and his wife, Sherman and Ann Gosch of Johnston, Iowa and their family; along with other extended family members. Norman was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; one sister and her husband, Marjorie and Elden Goslar; a grandson, BJ Gosch; and aunts and uncles. ξ
