Obituary for Donald P. Uhl
ξSurrounded by his loving family, Donald P. "Donnie" Uhl, 86, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa. The funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Mapleton. Visitation will be Monday, May 18, 2015, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and the Vigil Wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Deacon Ray Rosburg will officiate. Visitation will resume Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until Mass time. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Donald Paul Uhl was born January 11, 1929, at Mapleton, Iowa, one of 13 children born to Joseph and Pearl (Altmanshofer) Uhl. He grew up and was educated in the Mapleton area. On October 12, 1949, Don was united in marriage to Lois Clara Wolterman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. The couple farmed and raised their five children in the Mapleton area. Lois passed away April 3, 1987.ξ Don was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. He loved supporting his kids involvement in 4-H as they grew up on the farm. Above all, Donnie loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and especially the times they shared holidays. He loved hosting those family events in his home and the happy family meals they shared. Don is survived by two sons and their wives, Jerry and Sharon Uhl of Ida Grove, Iowa and Tom and Debra Uhl of Schleswig, Iowa; one daughter, Jean Uhl of Sioux City, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Judy Uhl of Ida Grove, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Dennis and Lori Uhl, Ann and Jim Kelly, Melissa and Scott Hammer, Melanie and Josh Rasmussen, Michele and Alex Saenz, Aaron and K'Lyn Uhl, Ashley Uhl and her special friend, Jared Leonard, Todd Uhl, Jessica and Brad Mitchell, Jason Uhl and his fiancee, Casey Thomas, and Renee and Ryan Sheehan; 16 great grandchildren; two brothers, Delbert Uhl of Spring, Texas and Ronald "Ronnie" Uhl and his wife, Agnes of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Lourine Kluver of Mapleton, Iowa and Viola "Dodie" Marksburg of Spirit Lake, Iowa;ξ along with many extended family members and good friends. Along with his beloved wife, Lois, Don was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Pearl Uhl; two sons, Doug and Greg Uhl; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Cecelia "Girlie" and Matt Flammang, Rita and Tom Fitzpatrick, Wilma Jean and Howard Stanton, Bernice and Freddie Kuhlmann, and four brothers in infancy, Joseph, Vincent, Raymond and Edwin; two brothers-in-law, Roy Kluver and Jim Marksbury; and one sister-in-law, Donna Uhl.
