Obituary for Jim Pierick
Jim Pierick, 85, of rural Danbury, Iowa passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at his home following health complications. The funeral Mass will be Monday, May 11, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, Iowa wit Rev. Daniel Greving officiating. Burial will be in Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Anthon with military graveside honors provided by the American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon. Visitation will be Sunday at the church from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Wake service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation resumes Monday from 9:00 a.m. until Mass time at the church. "Jim" Pierick was born in Fonda, Iowa, July 9, 1929, the son of Bernard John "Barney" and Camilla "Tillie" (Thompson) Pierick. The family moved to Anthon when Jim was two years old. He graduated from the Anthon High School with the class of 1947. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954 and was stationed in Korea. ξOn May 19, 1952, Jim was united in marriage to Vera Martens at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon where they remained life long members. Jim farmed at Anthon, then in 1966, the family moved to rural Danbury, where he continued farming. He retired from his farming career in 1995, but continued helping friends farm until his passing. ξJim and Vera were blessed with 12 children, Ray, Patty, Sue, Camilla, Donna, Mary, Jack, Paul, Joe, Larry, Frank, and Kathi Jo. Jim loved spending time with his family, and was a great inspiration to them all. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, playing cards and playing cribbage. ξξHe is survived by Vera, his wife of nearly 63 years; a daughter-in-law, Becky (Tracy) Smizer of Anthon, Iowa, Patty Pierick of Sioux City, Iowa, Sue (Mike) Gooch of Mingo, Iowa, Dr. Camilla (Bill) Frederick of Illinois City, Illinois, Donna (Semore) Christophersen of Whiting, Iowa, Mary (Joe) Gates of Denver, Colorado, Jack (Helen) Pierick of Cameron, Missouri, Paul (Michelle) Pierick of Whiting, Iowa, Joe (Trudy) Pierick of Iowa City, Iowa, Larry (Linda) Pierick of Mingo, Iowa, Frank (Jill) Pierick of Whiting, Iowa, and Kathy Jo (Dr.Tadd) Knobloch of Hartley, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 21 step great grandchildren; 2 step great great grandchildren; very special friends, Frank, Matt, and Skip Welte; brothers-in-law, Martin (Barb) Martens of Sioux City, Iowa, Tom, Jr. (Mary Ellen) Martens of Kimberly City, Missouri, George (Pat) Martens of Kirksville, Missouri, Walter (Wanda) Martens of Ozark, Missouri, Pat (Donna) Martens of Euafola, Oklahoma, Larry Martens of Marshall, Arkansas, and Roger Martens of Watertown, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Mamie (Don) Joy of Cushing, Iowa; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. ξJim was preceded in death by his eldest son, Ray; his parents; two brothers, Richard and Edward Pierick; a sister, Bernadette Hoffman; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and June Martens.
