Obituary for Myrna I. Malone
Des Moines, IA - Myrna Malone, 70, of Des Moines and formerly of Ute, Iowa, died in a motor-vehicle accident near Sloan, Iowa, on Nov. 22. The funeral services will be Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of Hope at 925 Jordon Creek Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa. Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute, Iowa has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Myrna was born March 31, 1944, in Ute, Iowa, to Elmer and Leona Jacobs, and the youngest of five children. Her sister, Donna Timm, also passed away from injuries sustained in the accident. She is survived by her husband of 49 years Larry Malone; their two children, Ryan Malone of Otley, Iowa and Jessica Malone of West Des Moines, Iowa; and two sisters, Norma Hasbrouck and her husband, Jim, of Des Moines and Lois Buck and her husband, Arlo, of Carroll, Iowa.劗Myrna loved spending time with family and friends, especially on road trips through Colorado. 劗She was an avid and accomplished quilter, and enjoyed crafting and making keepsakes to share. Baking and cooking were two of her passions, especially during the holidays when it was impossible for a visitor to her home to get away empty-handed. Gardening was a major source of enjoyment that she carried forth from her mother. Planting flowers brought her a sense of calm satisfaction and connection. She had a marvelous sense of humor, accompanied by an unforgettable laugh, and an appreciation for light shenanigans. Alongside her deepest devotion to her children, Ryan and Jessica, she loved other children, many with whom she developed lifelong relationships. She provided care throughout the years for neighborhood families in the warm and joyful atmosphere of her home. A second mom to many, Myrna instilled in young people the fundamentals of life such as the difference between right and wrong and the imperatives of honesty, fairness and sharing. Her nurturing love provided fertile soil from which to grow; always encouraging others to follow their dreams and trust their feet. Myrna was a member of Lutheran Church of Hope, and greatly appreciated every service--especially the music. She also worked for the United Church of Christ as a bookkeeper for many years, supporting the ministry with her talents for keeping the numbers accurately. Myrna always uplifted and supported others with kindness and understanding. She will be ever present in the hearts of those left behind and dearly missed. A life well lived is a life full of love; by that measure she could not have walked a better path. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa: https://www.arl-iowa.org/mobile/donate/default.aspx
