Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton and Ute, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements and the family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Virgia Louise Savery entered this world November 6, 1933, at Moorhead, Iowa, one of three children born to John P. and Anna (Kjeer) Johnson. She grew up in the Moorhead area and graduated from Moorhead High School. After high school, she moved to Sioux City, worked at Wind Charger, and met her future husband. On September 12, 1954, Virgia was united in marriage to Dale Savery at the Moorhead Lutheran Church. Dale enlisted into the Army after their marriage and was stationed in Germany. During that time their first son had been born so in a determined effort, Virgia and the baby traveled alone together per train and ship to Germany to visit Dale, a memory he will forever hold in his heart. Upon Dale's honorable discharge, the family began farming in 1954, in the Soldier and Ute area where they also raised their three sons. In 1987, Dale and Virgia moved to Bentonville, Arkansas where she engaged seriously in the creation and sales of her craft items. She was never happier than when she was working away on her sewing machine and bringing hundreds of dolls and quilts to life. Her crafts were sold out of their home in Bentonville and she later had a store in Branson, Missouri, which sent her dolls around the world. She absolutely wore out five sewing machines during these years but loved it all. Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls were her favorites. Due to illness and the need for family support, Dale and Virgia moved back to Soldier just three weeks ago. During their years in Arkansas, Virgia treasured the times they spent back and forth with their kids and grand kids. She was a very active member of the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bentonville. The day of her death a bazaar was held at her church for which Virgia had previously donated well over half of the craft items presented that very day. Family members surviving Virgia include Dale, her husband of 60 years; three sons, Don Savery and his wife, Mary Ann, of Soldier, Iowa, Gregg Savery of Missouri, and Jeff Savery and his wife, Shawn, of Peoria, Arizona; five grandchildren, Kyle Savery of West Des Moines, Iowa, Bryan Savery and his wife, Molly, of Soldier, Iowa, Jayme Savery of Maryville, Missouri, and Addison and Chase Savery at home in Peoria, Arizona; one brother and his wife, Merle and Betty Johnson of Dunlap, Iowa; and one sister, Jeanette Peyton of Omaha, Nebraska; along with other extended family members. Virgia was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Leone Murdock and her husband, Elmer; and a brother-in-law, Paul Peyton.
