Obituary for Julietta "Judy" Riley
Julietta "Judy" Leona Riley was born on July 8, 1926, in Mapleton, the daughter of Emil and Leona (Jacobs) Wacheldorf. ξA lifelong resident, she attended school in Mapleton. ξShe married her high school sweetheart, Morris Riley on July 18, 1948, at the United Church of Christ in Mapleton. ξThey were expecting their first child when he was called to the military. Judy loved staying at home to raise her eight children and treasured watching them grow and start families of their own. ξShe worked as a waitress at a variety of restaurants and helped out her sister by tending bar for her at Thiel's Recreation. ξShe also worked for a while at IBP. Judy was very gifted with the crochet hooks and spent many hours crocheting making blankets and afghans for her loved ones. ξShe enjoyed spending time outdoors. ξShe loved watching NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhart. ξShe also loved any type of baseball with the Chicago Cubs being her favorite team. ξShe was a member of the United Church of Christ of Mapleton. Left to treasure their memories of Judy were her eight children, Michael and his wife, Lois of Mapleton, Larry and his wife, Helen of Yukon, OK, Barbara and her husband, Roger Bainbridge of Smithland, Connie and her husband, Gary Teel of Whiting, Sandra and her husband, Tim Burke of Mapleton, Debra Spiegel of Mapleton, Kevin and his wife, June of Mapleton, and Mark and his wife, Tina of Onawa; 20 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren with two more on the way; a brother and his wife, Richard and Sherri Wacheldorf; and two sisters, Norma Marsh and Phyllis Reinbold. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Morris A. Riley; her parents, Emil and Leona Wacheldorf; her son-in-law, Richard Spiegel; her grandson, Cory Riley; a sister, Delores "Tootie" Thiel; and three brothers, Elmer, Leonard, and Bob Wacheldorf.
