Richard J. "Dick" Theobald Anthon, Iowa - Richard J. "Dick" Theobald, 82, of Anthon, Iowa died of natural causes Sunday, January 5, 2014, at his home in Anthon. The Funeral Mass is Thursday, January 9, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon with Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Burial will be in Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military graveside services provided by the American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Anthon is in charge of the arrangements. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Richard Joseph Theobald was born in Sioux City Iowa to Nick and Celia Theobald on January 20, 1931.ξ He attended Saint Joseph Catholic School in Anthon until his junior year, graduating from Trinity College and HighξSchoolξin Sioux City Iowa.ξ ξξξξξξξξHe married Mary Agnes "Toots" Sawin on December 26, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Anthon, Iowa. He served his country in the U.S. Army as Corporal during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Dick and Mary made their home on the farm outside Anthon near what use to beξξLuckyξξValley Center. They had seven children.ξ His family and farm were the heart and center of his life. His beloved wife, Mary, passed away July 26, 2008. Dick was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Anthon, Iowa.ξξ He was a member of the Knight's of Columbus of Danbury, Iowa and held office as financial secretary.ξ He was also trustee for Wolf Creek Township andξ as a member of the American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon, Dick served as secretary. He is survived by his children, four sons,ξ Greg Theobald and his wife Kelly of Kansas City, MO; Scott Theobald and his wife Mary of Raymore, MO, Mike Theobald and his wife Candie of Overland Park, KS and Jeff Theobald and his wife Kim of Urbandale, IA; and three daughters, Kris Wesche and her husband Mikeξ of Saint Charles, MO, Jennifer Hudson and her husband Leo of Romeo, MI and Amy Vaassen and her husband Jeff of Dubuque, Iowa.ξξHe is also survived by seventeenξgrandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Galvin of Sioux City Iowa. Along with his wife, Dickξis preceded in death by ξhis parents, two brothers, Gerald Theobald and Fr. Vincent Theobald and two sisters, Bernice Crabbe and Margaret Atwood.
