Newell J. Ingram Danbury, Iowa - Newell J. Ingram, 75, of Danbury, Iowa passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa with his family by his side. The funeral service is Friday, January 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oto United Church of Christ in Oto, Iowa with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon, Iowa with military graveside honors provided by the American Legion Henry V. McKenna Post #651 of Oto. Visitation will be Thursday, January 2, 2014, after 4:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, Iowa. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Newell Jennings Ingram was born February 26, 1938, at Rodney, Iowa, the son of Harold and Maude (Harsh) Ingram. He graduated from Smithland High School with the class of 1956. He served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. On May 28, 1962, Newell was united in marriage to Janice Sands at Correctionville, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Jay, Julie, Jeff. and Jason. Upon returning from the service, Newell worked one year for Melvin Bainbridge and then worked for Wally Rundall. Newell began working for the Farmer's Coop Elevator in Hornick, Iowa in 1971 and retired from that same business in 2000 under its new name, Western Iowa Coop. He helped out at multiple grain and fertilizer companies part time for another ten years before fully retiring. Newell also milked cows and raised hogs for many years. Newell was recently re-elected to the Woodbury County Fair Board for another three year term after already serving 24 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Henry V. McKenna Post #651 of Oto. Newell enjoyed playing cards, listening to the Statler Brothers, and almost all sporting events, especially college sports, a faithful fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes Boys Basketball Team. He was an avid bowler on numerous mixed and men's leagues. He enjoyed going to Timber Ridge on Saturday nights to go dancing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. Survivors include Janice, his wife of 51 years; two sons, Jay Ingram and his wife Jane of Danbury, Iowa and Jason Ingram of Sioux City, Iowa; a daughter, Julie Race and her husband George of Monument, Colorado; six grandchildren, Jordan Ingram of Sioux City, Iowa, Jessica, Jenna, and Jayce Ingram of Danbury, Iowa, and George and Zachary Race of Monument, Colorado; a brother and his wife, Roger and Kay Ingram of Mapleton, Iowa; a sister Gert Ingram of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews; along with many good friends. Newell was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Maude Ingram; a son, Jeff Ingram; a brother Paul Ingram; and two sisters, Dorothy Hanks and Margaret Weidman.
