Obituary for William C. "Bill" Kinney
William Carl "Bill" Kinney was born on June 20, 1932, the son of Clifford and Minnie (Moltman) Kinney, in Battle Creek, Iowa. He grew up with his family in Danbury and received his diploma at Danbury Public School with the class of 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1952, beginning at Camp Crowder, Ark. Bill was honorably discharged in October 1954 as a sergeant at Fort Chaffee, Ark. He was united in marriage to Shirley Mae Conrad on July 25, 1959, at the Catholic church in Fonda, Iowa. Bill was the postmaster at the Danbury Post Office from 1955 to 1960, when he took over a rural route. He carried that route for 28 years, retiring in 1988. Bill spent the first 53 years of his life in Danbury. In 1985, they moved to Mapleton so that he could run his business, Piccadilly Circus Pizza until it was sold in 1995. He was the president of the Iowa Rural Letter Carriers Association from 1979 to 1981. He was also a member of the American Legion Carlson Frum Post 336 of Danbury and of the American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496. He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. Survivors left to treasure their memories of Bill include his wife of 54 years, Shirley of Mapleton; his son and his wife, Mike and Jan Kinney of Elko New Market, Minn.; his daughter, Karen Kinney of Mapleton; his sister and her husband, Laura and Jon Scott of Danbury; and five grandchildren, Megan Zylstra, Jill Kinney, Patrick Fueston, Daniel Fueston, and Cole Kinney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Clifford Kinney; and by a son, John W. Kinney.
