Gwenith Lee Hahn was born October 19, 1926, at Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Cleon Jasper and Effie (Sowles) Jordan. She grew up in the area and graduated with the Charter Oak High School class of 1945. On June 8, 1947, Gwen was united in marriage to Herbert Hahn at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, Iowa. The couple made their home in Mapleton. While Herb was working outside the home, Gwen was busy as a homemaker and the mother of their four children. Herb and Gwen moved to Omaha, Nebraska August 1, 2011. She developed a deep appreciation for music, a tradition the Sowles family all shared and one she passed onto her own children. In conjunction with her love of music, Gwen found happiness dancing, especially square dancing and the polka. When time allowed, Gwen also enjoyed playing cards, games and completing puzzles. She had a love of reading and shared that love in a special manner by reading to her children and grandchildren. Gwenith, along with Herb, loved traveling and spent many winters in New Mexico and Texas. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a past member of St. John's United Methodist Church where she was active in the women's circle. Family members left to cherish their loving memories of Gwen are Herb, her husband of 66 years; her four children, Gary Hahn and his wife Jill of Omaha, Nebraska, Glenda Hahn, also of Omaha, Joyce Jensen and her husband Tom of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Jon Hahn of Austin, Texas; and three grandchildren, Mallory Jensen and her fiancee Brian Crist and Andrew and Aaron Hahn; along with many other extended family members.
