Obituary for Leo Waderich
Leo Waderich Hornick, IA - Leo Waderich, 89, of Hornick, Iowa passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012, at his home. Services will be Monday, November 26, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Pastor Scott Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be Sunday, November 25 after 4:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton is in charge of the arrangements. Leo Arthur Waderich was born June 1, 1923 near Ute, Iowa to William and Anna (Kruse) Waderich, the oldest of three children with sisters Violet (Fick) and Hazel (Johnson). At the age of four his family moved to a farm near Holly Springs where Leo graduated with the class of 1941. On December 3, 1944, he married Mary Lorraine McKenna. The couple made their home and raised their family on the family farm near Hornick, Iowa. Leo was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton and served as an elder and usher throughout his lifetime. Leo adored his family including many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Since his retirement he has enjoyed tending to his large garden and took great delight reading, listening to music, and dancing. He is survived by his four daughters, Marilyn Hamann (Duane) of Smithland, Iowa; Marcia Hulse Rauch (Kevin) of Iowa City, Iowa; Shery Roupe (Roger) of Sioux City, Iowa; and Rita Tabke (Garrett) of Moville, Iowa; three sons, Dennis Waderich (Sue) of Savage, Minn.; Steven Waderich (Tamara) of Burnsville, Minn., and Michael Waderich (Kathy) of Hornick, Iowa, a sister Hazel Johnson of Whiting, Iowa; and a special friend Phyllis Dowling. He has been blessed with 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Leo was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 63 years; his parents; sister Violet Fick; and 2 brothers-in-law Arnold Fick and Earl Johnson. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Siouxland or St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton.
