Obituary for Benjie B. Petersen
Benjie B.Petersen was born May 15,1932 at Battle Creek, Iowa.ξ His parents were JohnξW.Petersen and Elta Mae (Barger) Petersen.ξ He was the youngest of four children.ξBenjieξgrew up on the family farm eastξofξAnthon, IA.ξ He attended Pat King country school and Anthon HighξSchool, graduating in 1950. Benjieξenlisted in theξUnited States Navy, October 28,1951 and was honorably discharged October 18,1955. On November 14, 1955 he married Marnis Irene Schwarz at St. John's Lutheran Church at Climbing Hill, IA.ξ Marnis and Benjie farmedξoutside of Anthon for the next 53 years, until his retirement in 2008. ξ Marnis and Benjie then moved to the town of Anthon.ξ Benjie loved attending all of his grandchildrens' sports events and activities, where he was always one of their biggest and loudest fans. ξSome of his ξfavorite activities were ballroom dancing with his wife Marnis and their dance posse, playing cards with his family and friends,ξbuilding decks, and welding & woodworking in his shop. ξThere were not many dull or quiet days in Benjie's life, and he lived each one to the fullest.ξ He will be greatly missed by many.ξ Benjie was a long time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Midway. During the years he was Sunday school superintendent, trustee, treasure and currently an elder.ξξHe was very active in the community and was President of the Woodbury County Cattlemen's Association. ξBenjie was on several local agricultural boards and committees throughout the years he farmed. ξOne of Benjie'sξproudest honors was to serve in Navy and the American Legion;ξMcNiff Post 389 of Anthon.ξ ξ He will be lovingly remembered by his four children and their families - Benjie Bryan and his wife Sharon ofξOklahoma City, OK, Jeffrey John and wife Cindy of Moville, IA; Michael Henry and wife Marilynn of Danbury, IA and daughter Marnie Jean and husband Corey Petersen of Sioux City, IA. Grandchildren areξScott Bockelmann, Eli Petersen, and Melissa Petersen.ξ Jake Hannah, Benjie Petersen and ξIsaac &Lindsey Petersen.ξ Theo Funderman III and Emily Sherwood (fiance).ξ Melanie Honsbruch, Tiffanie Honsbruch, Lindsie Honsbruch andξDan Meizner (fiance),ξ and Whitney Honsbruch.ξ Tom and Shawna Dennison, Tiffany and Eric Wood,ξ and Tanya Dennison.ξ Benjie also hadξ12 great- grandchildren.ξ ξ Benjie was preceded in death his brother John W. Petersen Jr.; and Walter Petersen.ξ Benjie is survived by his loving wife Marnis (Schwarz) Petersen, andξ his sister Martha Ann Hanson and husband Don of Alberquerque, NM.ξξξ ξ In lieu of flowers, please send any memorials to the American Legion Post McNiff Post 389 of Anthon.ξ
