Wayne Kent Moffitt, known simply as Kent to all who knew and loved him, passed away on June 7, 2025. Born in Greeley, Colorado, on October 25, 1949, Kent lived a life full of purpose, adventure, and connection.

Kent’s early years were spent between the family farm and the family-operated hotel in Greeley. He developed a deep love for agriculture and rural life—values that stayed with him throughout his life. As a young boy, he was an active member of the Greeley Saddle Club, where his father served as president. Kent fondly recalled summers spent riding horses, serving ice cream, and mastering the perfect Dairy Queen swirl—his own version, dubbed the "Kent King Kurl."

In his youth, Kent took to the rodeo life, riding bareback broncs and later trying his hand at team roping and steer wrestling. His understanding of the cattle and meatpacking industry led him to a position with the Monfort packing house in Greeley. In December 1967, he married a young college student from Southern California, and together they welcomed a daughter, Sandy.

Career opportunities brought Kent to Denison, Iowa, but a new passion soon took hold—truck driving. He fell in love with the freedom of the open road and the independence of being his own boss. In 1989, he found a way to combine his passions for rodeo and trucking when he partnered with the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association). His trailer proudly displayed the PRCA logo and was even featured at the National Finals Rodeo and the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.

During his trucking years, Kent met Lorrie, who would become his beloved wife and partner in life for over 30 years. Their marriage was full of adventures—sharing the cab of a truck, building homes together in Colorado and Iowa, including a memorable cabin Kent constructed in Westcliffe, Colorado. Eventually, they made their home in Ute, Iowa, where Kent retired to spend more time with Lorrie.

In retirement, Kent embraced a growing faith, becoming a devoted member of Emmaus Orthodox Presbyterian Church, where he and Lorrie shared their beliefs and supported others in their walk of faith. Never one to sit idle, Kent took on another meaningful chapter working with his friend Tom Brink, staying connected to the trucking and packing house industries that had shaped so much of his life.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents, James Moffitt and Dorrace Moffitt Pittman, and his brother, James Kirk Moffitt. He is survived by his wife Lorrie; his daughter Sandy (Clay Luce); his sister Nancy (Bob Dethloff); his niece Sara Dethloff Duran (Ben Duran); his stepsons Andy, Chris, and Joshua Conto; and grandchildren Quintin (Brook Conto), Kaitlyn (Connor Tuschen), Darren, and Hezekiah.

He will also be remembered by many extended family members, dear friends, and all those who shared the road, the rodeo, and the faith with Kent.

His was a life lived fully—with grit, grace, and gratitude.
