Norma Jean Van Ness, age 87, of West Des Moines, Iowa (formerly of Moorhead, Iowa) passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the UnityPoint-Iowa Methodist Medical Center of Des Moines, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Moorhead Christian Church of Moorhead, Iowa. Pastor Chuck Snow will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Spring Valley Cemetery of Moorhead, Iowa.

Norma Jean Van Ness, the daughter of Amos Floyd and Margaret (Owens) Van Ness, was born on March 31, 1936, in Portsmouth, Iowa. She graduated from Moorhead High School and the University of Northern Iowa.
Norma Jean was employed as an elementary teacher in the Des Moines area and was active in many organizations. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed tending to her flowers. At the age of 14, Norma Jean helped raise her siblings after her father had passed away.
Survivors include eight nieces; six nephews; a special friend and her husband who were also Norma’s neighbors in West Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents Amos and Margaret Van Ness as well as all of her siblings.
