Obituary for Marydonna E. Collins
Marydonna E. Collins, age 94, of Mapleton, Iowa, (formerly of Danbury, IA) passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Sioux City, Iowa. Rev. Peter Duc Hung Nguyen will officiate; with Committal Services following in the Calvary Cemetery, of Sioux City, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. The Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online www.armstrongfuneral.com.

Marydonna E. Collins, the daughter of John F. and Lucille J. (Starkey) Hackett, was born on September 27, 1923, in Sioux City, IA. Marydonna grew up in the Sioux City and graduated from the Cathedral High School with the class of 1943. After high school, Marydonna attended nursing school in Chicago.

On July 1, 1946, Marydonna married Ralph Collins at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City, IA. The couple made their family home on a farm near Danbury. They were blessed with five children: Bonnie “Scottie”, Don, Allen, Michael, and Dan. Marydonna enjoyed being a homemaker and farm wife. She was very involved in her children’s activities whether it be school or 4-H related. She served as a 4-H leader in Woodbury County for many years, was a lifelong donor at the Siouxland Blood bank, was a member of the National Farmers Organization (NFO), Catholic Daughters, and Siouxland Amateur Organ Club. Her and Ralph were also very active in the Woodbury County Democratic Party.

In their free time, Marydonna and Ralph enjoyed dancing as well as partaking in a friendly game of cards with the neighborhood card club. In 1980, the couple relocated to Sioux City to enjoy their retirement. After Ralph passed away, Marydonna returned to Danbury and lived in town before eventually moving into Maple Heights Care Center in 2007. She will always be remembered for her personality, wit and sense of humor.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Bonnie “Scottie” Poskevich, Don (Sandra) Collins, Allen Collins, Dan (Shelley) Collins; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; special friends Jerry and Gloria Struble.

Marydonna was preceded in death by her parents John and Lucille Hackett; her husband Ralph Collins; son Michael Patrick Collins; granddaughters Michelle Cole and Stacie Collins; son-in-law Ron Poskevich; brother Francis Hackett; grandmother Flora Noble.
