Jack D. Johnson, age 69, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at his brother’s residence of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Mike Fillmore will officiate. Committal services will follow in the Center Township Cemetery of Castana, Iowa.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa.

Jack D. Johnson the son of Everett and Rose (Cady) Johnson, was born on December 18, 1953, in Sioux City, Iowa. When Jack was eight years old the family relocated to Mapleton, Iowa, which became Jacks forever home. During his school years, Jack enjoyed participating in wrestling and track. He graduated from Maple Valley High School with the class of 1973.
After graduation Jack went to work for Zenith in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1975 Jack begun his career with the secondary road department for Monona County as a Road Maintainer Operator. After forty plus years with Monona County Jack retired in December 2018.
Jack enjoyed the great outdoors and going fishing. He cherished his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Blessed with the art of conversation, Jack never knew a stranger and quickly made friends with everyone he met. After a courageous but short fight with cancer, Jack passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones at his brother’s home in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
Survivors include his brother John Johnson of Sergeant Bluff, IA; honorary brother Gary Crouch, of Denver, CO; nieces, nephews, dear friends and extended family.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Rose Johnson; and brother Charles Johnson
