Obituary for Jean M. (Wessling) Carmichael
Jean M. (Wessling) Carmichael, age 73, of Louisburg, Kansas (formerly of Mapleton, Iowa) passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at St. Luke’s South Hospital of Overland Park, Kansas.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 3, 2022, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Father William McCarthy will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa.

Jean Marie (Wessling) Carmichael was born on September 30, 1948, in Mapleton, Iowa, the youngest child of Lawrence and Margaret (Willson) Wessling. She grew up in Mapleton, attended St .Mary’s Catholic Grade School and Maple Valley High School, graduating with the class of 1966. While in school she was the band majorette, captain of the dance team, and competed with the speech team. After graduation, Jean moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked with Nancy Bound’s Modeling. For over 20 years she owned and operated Carmichael Audio-Video. Near the end of her career, she worked at Clarkson Hospital.
Jean expressed her creative spirit through decorating and sewing, creating elaborate costumes for her daughter and grandchildren. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed trips all around the United States as well as Ireland, Germany, and the Caribbean. Informed by her Catholic upbringing, her front door was always open to family, friends, and strangers.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carey (Chris) Coolidge of Louisburg, KS; her grandchildren, Kathleen, Henry and Elaine Coolidge; her siblings, Jerry (Catherine) Wessling, Cheryl (Edwin) O’Connor, Richard (Barbara) Wessling, and Kathleen Loomis; sisters-in-law, Lora and Mary Wessling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Margaret Wessling; and siblings, Denise, James, and Keith Wessling.
