Obituary for Kenneth L. Hill
Kenneth L. Hill, age 86, of Anthon, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the United Methodist Church of Anthon, Iowa. Rev. Sheryl Ashley will officiate; Committal Services will follow in the Fairfield Cemetery (Rock Branch) of rural Correctionville, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the McNiff Unit 389 of the American Legion of Anthon, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Homes of Anthon, Iowa. Kenneth L. Hill the son of Lyle J. and Lola V. (Yockey) Hill was born on August 28, 1930, in Anthon, Iowa. Kenneth graduated from Anthon High School with the class of 1949.
Shortly after graduation, Kenneth was drafted into the United States Army. Kenneth honorably served his country for two years during the Korean War. Upon being discharged he returned home to Anthon, Iowa. On June 6, 1954, Kenneth married Mary E. Livermore from Oto, Iowa, in the United Methodist Church of Oto, Iowa. The couple were blessed with two children Debra and Bryan.
Kenneth worked as a farm hand, construction worker, and later for Woodbury County as an equipment operator maintaining Woodbury County gravel roads for 28 ½ years before retiring in 1995.
Kenneth enjoyed attending his son Bryan’s and his grandchildren’s sporting events along with his wife Mary. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, his cats and dogs, watching baseball, and was there to lend a helping hand.
Kenneth was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Anthon, Iowa. He was a 50 year member of the Anthon American Legion and the local Masonic Lodge.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Lola Hill; great grandsons Bryton and Brenden Hill; and brother-in-law Marvin Clause.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years Mary Hill of Anthon, Iowa; children Debra (Chauncey) Wilson and Bryan (Faye) Hill all of Anthon, Iowa; grandchildren Jeffrey (Tara) Hill of Correctionville, Iowa, Jennifer (Beau) Hanson of Castana, Iowa, Rebecca Wilson of Sioux City, Iowa, and Anthony “Tony” (Torey) Hill of Kingsley, Iowa; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Eunice Clause of Anthon, Iowa; 2 nephews; extended family and friends.
