Russell Landon Mohr, the second son of Lester and Norma (Martz) Mohr, was born June 19, 1981, in Onawa, Iowa. While attending the MVAO School District Russ truly enjoyed being a catcher for the Rams baseball team; but he was always a farmer at heart. At age 14 he had his own haying crew. In 1998 Russ lost the person he admired the most and whom was his best friend, his father. After that Russ’ life was never the same.
Russ had a big heart, was very personable, made friends readily, and felt things deeply. He believed you lived for today because you didn’t know if tomorrow would come. Russ was a jack of all trades who enjoyed staying busy and working with his hands. Working for Speedy Rooter & Plumbing gave him the opportunity to use his skills.
If it had to do with the outdoors, Russ was up to it. He thoroughly enjoyed eating the mushrooms he found or going boating, horseback riding or grabbing the rod and reel to land that 19 pound catfish from a pond. Doing all this with family and friends made it all the better.
Russ’ greatest pride and love rested with his children, who they are today and the individuals they were becoming for tomorrow. He always believed in them. His brother Lance played a major part in Russ’ life. Russ always admired Lance and valued his opinion. Through thick or thin the brotherly bond never wavered.
Left to cherish his memory include his mother Norma Mohr of Mapleton, IA; his son Landon Mohr of Sheldon, IA and daughters Beau and Isabelle Mohr of Ute, IA; brother Lance Mohr of Sioux City, IA; Laura and Clark Woosley and nephew Ryan Woosley of the Netherlands; and uncle Don Martz of Ute, IA.
He was preceded in death by his father Lester Mohr, brother James Mohr and his maternal and paternal grandparents. On May 31, 2021, Russell joined his father and brother. His broken heart is now healed.
