William L. “Bill” Anderson, age 68, of Smithland, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Maple Heights Nursing Home of Mapleton, Iowa.
A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a Prayer Service held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Interment with military rites will be held at a later date at the Mount Hope Cemetery of Independence, Iowa. William L. “Bill” Anderson the son of Donald and Frances (Schultz) Anderson was born on September 21, 1948 in Independence, Iowa. Bill graduated from Jefferson High School with the class of 1966. After high school Bill was drafted joining the U.S. Marine Corps. He honorably served his country overseas in Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service to his country. Bill was honorably discharged from service on April 10, 1974.
Bill was hired by the DNR as a Water Officer. He started his career as a Parker Officer in 1977 for the Woodbury Conservation Board. Bill was an accomplished outdoorsman who had a passion to fish the Missouri River. He retired from his position as Park officer after 38 devoted years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Frances Anderson. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Andrew Anderson of Smithland, IA, Amanda (Dustin) Swisher of Wayne, NE, and Abagail (Terry) Holt of Caldwell, ID; five grandchildren; brothers Chris (Paula) Anderson of Independence, IA; James (Linda) Anderson of Independence, IA, and Dick (Sherrie) Anderson of Moravia, IA; sister Mary (Bob) Black of Morris, ILL; beloved dog Toad; extended family and friends.
