Obituary for Wayne G. Livermore
Wayne G. Livermore Mapleton, IA - Wayne G. Livermore, 86, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton. Funeral services will be Friday, September 21, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Scott Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Oto Cemetery at Oto, Iowa with the American Flag presentation by the Little Sioux Valley V.F.W. Post #9124 of Oto, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, September 20 with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and the prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Wayne Gray Livermore was born May 10, 1926, at Oto, Iowa, one of 13 children born to Alfred AI and Annie Elizabeth Morrison (Gray) Livermore. He was baptized at Oto, grew up, and attended school there. Wayne served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army from September 22, 1944 until November 19, 1946. For 20 months he served in the South Pacific primarily in the Philippines earning the Asian Ribbon with a Bronze Star. After his honorable discharge, Wayne moved near family at Canby, Minnesota. On December 7, 1947, Wayne was united in marriage to Deloris Mae Laabs at the Lutheran Church in Canby, Minnesota. He was also baptized into the Lutheran faith while in Canby. Wayne worked at various jobs in Minnesota while raising their family of four children. They moved to Iowa in 1957, and lived and worked in multiple areas, settling upon retirement on their acreage northwest of Mapleton. Wayne and Deloris moved in to Mapleton in 1997. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, a past member of the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton, and a current member of the Little Sioux Valley V.F.W. Post #9124 of Oto, Iowa. Survivors include Deloris, his loving wife of 64 years; children, Dennis Livermore and his wife, Anne of Mapleton, Iowa, Peggy Ketelsen and her husband, Kimbo of Castana, Iowa, Kathy Wunschel and her husband, Larry of Mapleton, Iowa, and Mark Livermore and Kathy Schiltz of Mapleton, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; two sisters, Marion Stratton of Huron, South Dakota and Pauline Ronald of West Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and five sisters.
