Walter L."Walt" Morgan Castana, Iowa - Walter L. "Walt' Morgan, 70, of Castana, Iowa passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015, at St. Luke's Unity Point Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The funeral service is Monday, July 6, at 10:00 a.m. There has been a change in the location of the service.The funeral service is going to be at the Smithland United Methodist Church in Smithland, Iowa with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery near Rodney, Iowa.. Visitation will be Sunday, July 5 after 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Walter Lee Morgan was born June 23, 1945, at Mapleton, Iowa, one of ten children born to William and Doris (Hinrickson) Morgan. He grew up in the Mapleton area and attended Mapleton High School. On April 18, 1965, Walt was united in marriage to Betty VanNorman at the Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa. The couple lived in Onawa for a short time and then made their home near Ticonic, Iowa with a Castana address. There Walt operated his salvage business for decades along with farming. He also worked on construction jobs for a time, where he operated heavy equipment. In support of his salvage business, Walt enjoyed "junking" at sales and auctions where he found his "treasures". He also found satisfaction in time spent hunting and trapping in the local hills and timbers. Family members left to hold onto their memories of Walt with tears and smiles include his wife of 50 years, Betty; his children, one daughter, Roxane Bales and her husband Dar of Onawa, Iowa; two sons, Walter Lee "Wally" Morgan and his wife, Valerie of Mapleton, Iowa and Phillip "Phil" Morgan and his wife Kera also of Mapleton, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Dylan and Austin Bales, Heather and Hailey Morgan, and Kelsey, Kayla, Kolby, and Katie Morgan; one step granddaughter Amy (Bales) Rodriquez and her husband, Rick; three step great grandchildren, Drake, Max, and Mae Rodriquez; one sister and her husband, Doris and Jim Mauch of Soldier, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Dan and Louise Morgan of LeMars, Iowa and Rex and Deb Morgan of Castana, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Frances Morgan of Denison, Iowa and Linda Morgan of Sioux City, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; along with other extended family members. Walt was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and sisters, Leo Morgan and his wife Charlotte, James Morgan, Helen Hesse, William "Bill" Morgan, Betty Suhr and her husband, Verdeen, and Larry Morgan.ξ
