Tony Lee Watke of Torrance, California (formerly of Ute, Iowa) passed away on June 14, 2017, at his residence in Torrance.

Tony was born on March 6, 1961, to James and Donna (Bretthauer) Watke. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. He received his education at Charter Oak-Ute Community School and graduated with the class of 1979. Tony then went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 from Morningside College.

After college Tony moved to Long Beach, California and then to Torrance, California, in 1985 where he made his life long career as an Associate Geotechnical Engineer at Western Laboratories. He enjoyed his field of work and even recruited his niece to come out and work for him for 5 years, in which time they had many adventures. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Long Beach, California.

Tony was an avid sports fan and especially loved rooting on the Pittsburg Steelers. He loved having his family coming to stay with him on vacations twice each year and was willing to take them any where they wanted to go.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother Donna Watke; sister Tanis Watke (Richard Hageman); brother Terry (Maria) Watke; niece Leah Schwery; nephews Justin and Kevin Watke; and great-nephew Kellen Anderson.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents John and Marie (Neddermeyer) Bretthauer and Walter and Martha (Maack) Watke; his father Jim Watke; great-nephew Nick and great-niece Lily.
