Obituary for Thomas W. Kane
Thomas W. Kane, 97, of Brea, California, formerly of Danbury, Iowa passed away Monday, July 10, 2017, in Anaheim, California.

A Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2017, at the Danbury Catholic Cemetery of Danbury, Iowa. Father Richard D. Ball will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by Carlson-Frum #336 of the American Legion of Danbury, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Mr. Thomas William Kane, the son of John J. and Eloise E. (Harrington) Kane, was born on July 21, 1919, in Danbury, Iowa. After high school Tom was drafted into the United States Navy. He honorably served his country during WWII as a gunner on the USS South Dakota.

Tom was honorably discharged from the Navy in December of 1946, in Philadelphia, PA. at the age of 27. He then returned to his home in Danbury, Iowa. Tom married Jean and the couple had five children. The couple later divorced.

In 1948, Tom moved to California where he went to work for the LA times in the press room. He assembled daily newspapers from 1948 to October of 1968 when he retired.

Tom was an avid reader. He loved anything about WWII, from collecting memorabilia to knowing facts, dates, and stories to share with others. He enjoyed listing to big band music and watching the Angels and Dodgers play baseball.

Tom is survived by his 5 children Josephine, Joan, John, Richard, and Theodore; 4 grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
