Obituary for Theodore "Ted" R. Rose
Theodore “Ted” Rose, age 80, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at the UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 15, 2021, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 16, 2021, at the St. Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa, with Pastor Mike Fillmore officiating.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic masks and social distancing are encouraged. The Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online www.armstrongfuneral.com.


Theodore “Ted” Richard Rose, the son of Earl and Marjorie (O’Connor) Rose, was born on August 27, 1940, in Monona County, Iowa. Ted grew up on the farm outside of Mapleton, Iowa and attended country school through the 8th grade. He helped his father on the farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958.

Upon his honorable discharge in 1961 Ted returned to Mapleton. He was blessed with four children: Cora, Terry, Jason and Jody. Ted was employed at Mary’s Hammer House and then CHN Garbage until his retirement. He enjoyed watching Westerns, tending to and riding his horses, and spending time with his family. Ted will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory include his children Cora (Amos) Parr of Mapleton, IA, Terry (Lisa) Pitman of Georgia, Jason Dean of Smithland, IA and Jody Hamman of Oto, IA; 11 grandchildren: Gage Parr, Chloe Parr, Dawson Hamman, Laiken Hamman, Krista Sulsberger, Derrick Sulsberger, Tyler Dean, Zack Dean, Braden Dean, Theo Dean and Brittany (Mark) Pitman-Workman; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Mary Palmer of Mapleton, IA; nephew Rick Palmer of Mapleton, IA; great-nieces Kimberly (Jesse) Vogt and Jenni Palmer; great-nephew Brandon (Shelby) Palmer; extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marjorie and Earl Rose; brother Elmer Rose; sister Jeanette (Roy) Rhodman; nephew Jim Palmer; and brother-in-law Elmer Palmer.
