He got his farm management degree from Western Iowa Tech. From there he began farming with his dad before starting on his own, with his brother Randy helping him with the farming operation. Steve was the greatest man anyone could ask for, always there lending a helping hand to anyone. He cherished every moment spent with his many friends. He was proud of his children's accomplishments, but what filled him full of pride was his grandchildren. It warmed his heart being Grandpa & Poppo. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, served on the Board of Directors of the Berne Coop for many years and a member of the Monona County Cattlemen's Association.
