Obituary for Shirley Larson
Shirley B. Larson Oto, Iowa - Shirley B. Larson, 92, of Oto, Iowa passed away Monday, October 7, 2013 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa. Services will be Friday, October 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa with Randy Gotto officiating. Burial will be in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, October 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be directed to the family at Shirley Bernice Larson was born March 5, 1921, at Bismarck, North Dakota, the daughter of Ted and Ruth (Nepper) Jonas. As a young girl she moved with the family to Sioux City, Iowa. A few years later, they moved to Smithland, Iowa where she attended high school. On September 3, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage to Albert Larson at Dakota City, Nebraska. The couple moved east of Oto, Iowa where they farmed and raised their five children. Albert passed away May 28, 1987. Shirley later moved in to her home in Oto and continued to live there until entering Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa. In her retirement years, Shirley found pleasure in time spent knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed putting detailed jigsaw puzzles together and was recognized for this talent while in the nursing home. Survivors include her three sons, Donald Larson and his wife Carol of Smithland, Iowa, Ronald Larson of Oto, Iowa, and Lester Larson of Danbury, Iowa; two daughters Sharon McDonald of Danbury, Iowa and Shirley Ann Sorensen of Tunas, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; three sisters, Theodora McCall of Pisgah, Iowa, Betty Uhl and her husband Wilfred of Smithland, Iowa, and Cecelia Curbow and her husband Ron of the Washington State; along with nieces and nephews and extended family members. Along with her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; one infant sister, Sharon Jonas; one brother, Ted Jonas; one grandson, Todd Larson; two daughters-in-law, Barb and Susan Larson; two sons-in-law, Jerry Sorensen and Bill McDonald; and one brother-in-law, Earl McDonald.
