Shannon D. Hagberg, age 55, of Anthon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at her residence of Anthon, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a Prayer Service at 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Anthon, Iowa. Pastor Karen Handke will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Anthon, Iowa.

Shannon Delores Hagberg, the daughter of Ronald “Ronnie” Newsome and Victorine “Vicki” McDermott, was born on June 14, 1970, in Iowa City, Iowa. She grew up in Anthon, Iowa, where she was raised by her grandparents, Vinnie and Delores McDermott. She received her education from Anthon-Oto High School where she excelled in track.
Shannon was raised in her family’s carnival business, spending her summers on the road from a young age. What began as a childhood experience eventually became her full-time career, while during the winter months she worked various seasonal jobs. She was blessed with four children: Lawton, Logan, Lara, and Lennon. Shannon previously worked as a cook at Sunset Knoll Care Center in Aurelia, Iowa and most recently was employed at the Cenex Convenience Store in Anthon.
In her free time, Shannon enjoyed cooking, baking, and singing. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Anthon and took great pride in helping with the monthly meals. Above all, Shannon cherished the time she spent with family and friends. She had a true love for life and delighted in making others laugh and feel entertained.
Left to cherish her memory include her mother Vicki Newlon of Anthon, IA; children Lawton (King) Kunze of Dakota City, NE, Logan Kunze of Anthon, IA, Lara Gaspers of Urbandale, IA and Lennon McDermott of Dakota City, IA; grandchildren Kayson, Brielle, Sophia, and Blayre; grandmother Delores McDermott of Anthon, IA; best friends Ian Yankey and Josh Chase; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her biological father Ronald “Ronnie” Newsome; father Randall “Randy” Newlon; grandfather Vinnie McDermott; brother Zack Newlon; and nephew Blair Newlon.
