Ruth E. Leisinger, age 81, of Ute, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home of Mapleton, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ute, Iowa. Rev. Jena Manchester will officiate. Committal will follow in the St. Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2018, 2018 at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ute, Iowa. Ruth E. Leisinger, the daughter of Buddie S. and Edna (Karr) Leisinger, was born on October 1, 1937, on a farm near Castana, IA. She grew up on the farm and attended school in Ute, IA
Ruth’s parents moved into town from the farm and bought the local café in Ute, in 1952. She started working in the family business, learning and perfecting her cooking skills from her mother. An accomplished pie maker, Ruth’s love for baking showed through in the delicious meals that she prepared.
In 1973, Ruth had the opportunity to buy her own café which she named Ruth’s Sweet Shop located in Ute. Throughout the years, Ruth provided delectable homemade food to her customers with pride seven days a week. After 38 years of owning and operating Ruth’s Sweet Shop, Ruth retired in 2012.
Besides her love for baking and cooking, Ruth loved and cherished small children. The smiles on the children’s faces as she handed out Halloween candy in her later years brought her pure joy.
Left to cherish Ruth’s memory are her brother-in-law Frank Martz; sister-in-law Barb Leisinger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Buddie S. and Edna Leisinger; brothers Gilbert, Othie and Buddy Leisinger; sisters Esther Melby and Marty Martz; and companion Marion Strait.
