Rosemary L. Theobald, daughter of Edward and Irene (Kearney) Lally, was born on a farm near Vail, IA on April 29, 1929. Rosemary grew up loving horses, dogs, and all other animals. She attended St. Ann’s Catholic School and graduated with the class of 1947. She furthered her education at Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), graduating with a diploma to teach elementary education. In 1977, she received her BA in elementary education from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA.

On December 31, 1953, Rosemary married Donald “Lefty” Theobald at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Vail, IA. The couple was blessed with four children Marie, Jeanie, Sue, and Mike.

Rosemary’s teaching career took her from a one room country school near Vail to Mapleton. She took a break from teaching to raise her family. She resumed her teaching career at Battle Creek, IA, and then at Maple Valley for 24.5 years before retiring in 1981.

She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, served on the Ladies Guild, and taught CCD. Rosemary loved to read, was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed teaching her daughters how to sew, and annually canned the bountiful produce grown in the family gardens.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Irene Lally; husband Donald “Lefty” Theobald; brothers: Leo, Donald, and Bernard Lally; sisters Muriel Bruning and Bernadine Littleton; and two infant siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Marie Theobald (William Walasinski) of Indianapolis, IN; Jeanie Theobald of Mapleton, IA; Sue (Tom) Cahalan of Norway, IA; and Mike Theobald of Kansas City, MO. Six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; sisters Peggy O’Brien of Brooklyn, WI and Rita Kenney of Cherokee Village AR; brother-in-law Emmet Bruning of Omaha, NE; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
