Obituary for Roberta A. Houlsworth

Roberta A. Houlsworth, age 84, of Anthon, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at her home in Anthon, Iowa.


A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Anthon Community Methodist Church of Anthon, Iowa. Lay Minister Shirley Nelson will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery of Anthon, Iowa.


A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Anthon Community Methodist Church of Anthon, Iowa.

Born on October 9, 1940, Roberta spent her formative years in the local area, attending Anthon Country School followed by Bronson High School. Roberta married Larry Houlsworth in January 15, 1960, throughout her life, Roberta was involved in her community and cherished by many for her nurturing and compassionate nature.


Roberta dedicated many years of her life to the service industry, contributing her cooking skills at local establishments such as June & Bert's Cafe in Moville, which she ran with her sister June, the Fireside in Anthon, and Brookside Restaurant in Kingsley. Her work was not just a job but a way to connect with and serve her community.


A faithful member of the Anthon Methodist Church, Roberta's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and interactions with those around her. Her hobbies included creating stained glass, crafting, gardening, and decorating for holidays, activities that not only brought joy to Roberta but also beautified her surroundings and brought happiness to others. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family.


Roberta was a beacon of love and kindness, often described as the most loving, caring mom, grandmother, and friend in the world. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and caring, survived by her son Todd (Cindy) Houlsworth of Dakota Dunes, SD; daughters Kimberly (Michael) McDonald of Perry, IA, and Brenda (Kevin) Todd of Anthon, IA; brothers Gene (Linda) Kollbaum of Bronson, IA; brother-in-law Tom Gray of Sioux City, IA; sister-in-law Lyla Kollbaum of Anthon, IA; grandchildren Bethany (Branden) Woodall, Olivia Houlsworth, Emily Houlsworth, Laura Houlsworth, Zachary (Kristin) Arvin, Austin Hawkins, Elliot (Hope) Hawkins, Jacee (Kevin) Weber, Riley (Taylor) McDonald, Brandon Todd, Loren Todd, and Morgan (Elijah) Dirkx; along with nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.


Preceding her in death were her husband Larry Houlsworth; parents Henry and Ida Kollbaum; sisters Ruth (Bill) Malone, Delores (Ralph) Diamond, Darlene (Ronnie) Zimmerman, Leona (Norman) Schmidt, and Lajune Gray; and brother Henry Kollbaum.


Roberta's life was a testament to the power of community, family, and faith. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those she touched.
