Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Kindig
Robert L. Bob Kindig, 80, of Anthon, Iowa transitioned to heaven Saturday, October 17, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center, Kingsley, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 20 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. Roger Hladik will officiate at a short service prior to burial at Oak Hill Cemetery near Anthon. Family and friends attending are encouraged to wear their Iowa Hawkeye apparel. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com.
Bobby was born September 9, 1935, at Correctionville, Iowa to Darrel and Mabel (Beeghley) Kindig. He was the youngest of three children and a graduate of the Correctionville High School class of 1954.
On October 30, 1965, Bob married LaDonna Moodie of Kingsley, Iowa. Together they raised four children.
In his younger years, Bob drove for Wright Trucking and worked for John Wilson as a mechanic. He then owned and operated the DX Gas Station in Anthon for over 20 years. There he continued to do a great deal of mechanic work. He followed that by working for the City of Anthon as a manager in city maintenance, retiring in 2001.
Bob enjoyed many hobbies over the years that put a light in his eyes and a smirk on his face. Some of these included drag racing which led to a win at the National Drag Racing Championship. He also enjoyed CB radios, his handle being Red Ram, attending auctions, and collecting. Bob handled his collections much like he ate, one thing at a time. He was active in the Little Sioux Cycle Club, the Anthon Fire Department, and the Anthon Community Club over the years.
Those left to honor his memory include Donna, his wife of 50 years; a sister, Doris Leuch of Texas; a son Doug (Piper) Perkins of Aneta, North Dakota; three daughters, Heather Shuck and Robin (Jon) Kerns, all of Anthon, Iowa and Amy (Shawn) Trosper of Wynstone, South Dakota. Bob was survived by one son he learned of later in life, Dave (Barb) Seil of Gowrie, Iowa. He enjoyed his 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Tana Ritter; a grandson, Dash Donnelly; and a sister, Darlene Eye.
