Obituary for Robert "Bob" Bridgeman
Robert R. Bridgeman Mapleton, IA - Robert "Bob" R. Bridgeman, 82, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his home with his family at his side. The funeral service will be Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton with Pastor Harvey Hanson officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa with military graveside honors provided the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 17 after 4:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family is accepting condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Robert "Bob" Ray Bridgeman was born November 25, 1931, at Mapleton, Iowa to Charles Richard and Elsie Opal (Hayes) Bridgeman. He grew up and attended school in the area. He served his country in the United States Army from September 11, 1950 until returning home upon his honorable discharge June 4, 1952. He worked at the Redi Mix Company and LeFebvre's 66 Station in Mapleton, farmed until 1980, and worked construction for Godberson-Smith until his retirement. On January 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elsie Irene Pauley in Onawa, Iowa. To this union, three children were born. Elsie passed away October 22, 1978. On October 29, 1983, Robert married Mary Anne Berry of Baxter, Iowa. He enjoyed the outdoors, but his greatest enjoyment was found in his family and friends. Those survivors left to cherish Robert's memory include his wife, Mary Berry; three children, LuAnna Gray and her husband, Ed, of Onawa, Iowa, Bob Bridgeman, Jr. and his wife, Bonny of Mapleton, Iowa, and Betty Gray and her husband, Richard of Blencoe, Iowa; seven step children, Jimmie and Tina Cox of Phoenix, Arizona, Susie and Mike Johnson of Baxter, Iowa, Mary and Kevin Krampe also of Baxter, Iowa; JoAnne and Marty Kunkel of Newton, Iowa, Donnie and Michelle Cox of Allerman, Iowa, Carla Berry of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Nick Cox of Mapleton, Iowa; 11 adopted children, Tony Berry of Sioux City, Iowa, Andy Berry of Mapleton, Iowa, Isaac Berry of Sioux City, Iowa, Aleandria Berry of Mapleton, Iowa, Jake Berry of Iowa City, Iowa, Aleisha Berry of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Alex Berry also of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Spencer Berry of Sioux City, Iowa, Nathan Berry, Patrick Berry, and Angel Berry, all of Mapleton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; three brothers, Donald Bridgeman and friend, Donna, of Ute, Iowa, Willard "Red" Bridgeman and his wife, Peggy of also Ute, Iowa, and Verlin "Butch" Bridgeman and his wife, Jolene of Denison, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Hopkins of Albia, Iowa and Claretta Bridgeman of Tyndall, South Dakota; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Along with his first wife, Elsie (Pauley) Bridgeman, Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bernard "Whitey" Bridgeman; three nephews, Jeffrey Bridgeman, Ronald Bridgeman, and Miron Allen; six sisters-in-law, Betty Pauley, Delores "Barney" Anderson, Wilma Hopkins, Ruth Hopkins, Vivian Bridgeman, Alice Bridgeman, and Mary Allen; and one brother-in-law, "Pete" Pauley.
