Richard “Rick” Allen was born on March 3, 1947, in Mapleton, Iowa, to Bud and Veta (Wiggs) Allen. His family moved to a farm by Hornick, Iowa, shortly after Rick was born. He attended Westwood Community School where he graduated with the class of 1966.

He was called into the Army shortly after he graduated, through which he served two years in Germany. On the very day he came home from the Army he met his future wife, Marla Bainbridge. They were married on January 8, 1971 and celebrated 51 years together earlier this year. Rick and Marla lived in North Sioux City, South Dakota, all of their married life. During this time the couple were blessed with three children and four grandchildren.

Rick was a hard worker, being employed for Irving F. Jensen Construction then Knife River Construction for a total of 45 years. He enjoyed boating, playing on sand bars, working on cars, and watching NASCAR races, always cheering on Dale Earnhardt. Rick fought cancer for five years, until he couldn’t fight anymore.

Rick is survived by his wife Marla (Bainbridge) Allen of North Sioux City, SD; children Tracy Allen of Sioux Falls, SD, Deidra Mossberg of Sioux City, IA and Amanda (Bobby) Moreno of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren Hanna Allen of Onawa, IA, Mitchell Mossberg of Kansas City, KS, Chloe Mossberg of Sioux City, IA and Nolan Moreno of Sioux City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bud and Veta (Wiggs) Allen; brother Jimmy Allen of Hornick; nephew Gary Allen of Rodney, IA; father-in-law and mother-in-law Loren and Ida Bainbridge; a brother in infancy; and his 4-legged companion, Rusty.
