Richard D. Hinrickson, age 81, of Rodney, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at his residence in Rodney, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Pastor Karen Handke will officiate. Committal will be held in the Grant Township Cemetery of Rodney, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 18, 2016, at the Armstrong- Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Richard D. Hinrickson of Rodney, Iowa, passed away at home on November 15, 2016, from a courageous battle with lung cancer. Richard was born on August 22, 1935 in a dugout by Rodney, Iowa.

He was the youngest of thirteen children born to John and Augusta (Dadt) Hinrickson. He attended school in Mapleton, Iowa and started working at the age of thirteen. He served in the U.S. Army from August of 1953 until June of 1961.

On May 17, 1958 Richard married Ann Marie Ryan in the Christian Church of Mapleton, Iowa. The couple were blessed with seven children. The family has made their home in Rodney, Iowa, since 1971. Over the years he worked for CNW Railroad, Maple Valley School, and CHN Garbage. He was also self-employed in the junking business.

Richard was a family man who was loved and adored by his family. In his later years his great grandkids enjoyed sitting on his lap and playing with his cane.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Ann Hinrickson of Rodney, Iowa; son, Mark Hinrickson of Rodney, Iowa; daughters, Deb (Ed Miller) Robbins of Castana, Iowa, Judy Steinhoff of Sloan, Iowa, and Susan Hinrickson of Holstein, Iowa; brother, Albert (LaVonne) Hinrickson of Ida Grove, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and three adopted grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four special friends, Clyde Robbins, Gaylen Steinhoff, Shari Harrington, and Ginger Robinson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Mary Ann Hinrickson; sons, Tim and David Hinrickson; granddaughter, Shaela Hinrickson; great granddaughter, Rosalie Kinsey; eleven siblings: Leslie, Doris Morgan, Johnnie, Clyde, William, Louie, George, Gertude Ely, Charles, Jane Meyers, and David Hinrickson.
