Obituary for Reverend Father LeRoy Lawrence Seuntjens
Reverend Father LeRoy Lawrence Seuntjens was born on December 25, 1934, in Danbury to Siebert and Clara (Ortner) Seuntjens. He grew up in Danbury, beginning his education at a country school. He attended grade school at St. Mary School and graduated from Danbury Catholic High School. He attended Loras College in Dubuque as his minor seminary. Upon completion, he transferred to North American College Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome as his major seminary. He was ordained on December 18, 1960, at North American College in Rome and received his S.T.L. from Pontifical Gregorian University. Fr. LeRoy's assignments: 1. Associate Director - Catholic Charities - Fort Dodge - 1966-1967 4. Pastor - St. Joseph Parish - Lohrville - 1966-1971 5. Pastor - Sacred Heart Parish - Sutherland (attending Primghar) - 1971-1974 6. Pastor - Our Lad of Mount Carmel Parish - Mt. Carmel - 1974-1981 ���Defender of the Bond - Tribunal - Diocese of Sioux City - 1974-1975 ���Judge - Tribunal - Diocese of Sioux City - 1975-1983 7. Pastor - Sacred Heart Parish - Boone - 1981-1983 8 Pastor - St. Mary Parish - Remsen - 1983-1986 9. Pastor - Assumption Parish/St. Thomas Parish - Emmetsburg- 1986-1989 10. Pastor - Holy Family Parish - Emmetsburg - 1989-1991 11. Pastor - St. Matthew Parish - Clare, IA (attending Barnum) - 1991-1994 12. Chaplain - Trinity Heights Queen of Peace - 2007-death Fr. LeRoy was a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus. He loved the hispanic community and officiated at a large number of Spanish masses. Survivors left to cherish their memories of Fr. LeRoy include 3 brothers, Clair and his wife Madelon "Tootie" Seuntjens of Danbury, Ronald and his wife Marilyn Seuntjens of Mapleton, and Cleo Seuntjens of Omaha; 2 sisters, Rita Dirksen of Danbury and Helen and her husband Gary Kelley of Sioux City; numerous nieces and nephews, and his fellow Brothers in Christ. Fr. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Siebert and Clara Seuntjens; a sister-in-law, Lois Seuntjens; and 2 brother-in-law, Ray Venteicher and Joe Dirksen.
