The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Pearl Ella Anna (Ernst) Hahn began her life's journey June 20, 1926, on the family farm east of Mapleton, the third and youngest child to Julius and Anna (Laumbach) Ernst and sister of Fern and Herbert Ernst. She was baptized in St. Peter's Evangelical Church August 15, 1926 and confirmed in April, 1940. She received her education in the rural school system known as the Rush Creek School. She was a woman from a time when being a homemaker was a proud vocation. Pearl learned to work on the family farm at an early age and realized it was hard work milking cows, how to drive a team of horses, and to pick corn by hand. They plowed with a John Deere tractor thus Pearl was known to say John Deere green was her favorite color. She knew she didn't want to marry a farmer so when Norman Hahn was home on furlough, he asked Pearl out. He was so handsome in his Army uniform, Pearl hung on! When he got discharged, they dated and were married February 5, 1950 in St. Peter's Evangelical Church by Rev. Elmer Otte. To this union, a son, Ronald Hahn, was born. Norman passed away May 29, 1991. Pearl was a faithful member of St. Peter's U.C.C. where she participated in the Women's Fellowship and other church activities. She kept a diary since she was 19 years old, and she was often able to tell what went on a certain date if she was asked. Survivors include her son, Ronald Hahn of Mapleton; a granddaughter, Kacee Hahn of also of Mapleton; four great grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Kaytlin, and Jordan; several sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; and friends including two special friends, Dorothy Zediker and Waldo Rickert. Along with her loving husband, Norman, Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Herbert Ernst and her sister, Fern Schnoor and her husband Fred; and nieces and nephews.
