Obituary for Owen Bainbridge
Owen J. Bainbridge Anthon, IA - Owen J. Bainbridge, 88, of Schaller. Iowa and formerly a long time Anthon resident passed away Sunday at the Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville, Iowa. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 402 East Brady Street, Anthon, Iowa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon with military graveside honors provided by the American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13 after 4:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Owen Joseph Bainbridge was born February 23, 1924, at Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Joseph Cecil and Ruth Esther (Plummer) Bainbridge. He attended school at Washta, Iowa and later at Oto, Iowa. On September 11, 1943, Owen married Geraldine Faye Davis at Sioux City, Iowa. The couple had three children and resided in rural Anthon. He worked for area farmers and at the Shelgren Cream Station. He also did plumbing work in the area but primarily was employed with the City of Anthon for an extended period of time, retiring in 1986. Geraldine passed away July 23, 1994. Owen moved to Schaller, Iowa in 2001. He served his country during World War II from 1944 to 1945, being honorably discharged following an injury. He was a member of the American Legion McNiff Post #389 of Anthon. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Snyder and her husband, Mike, of Schaller, Iowa and Sis Putzier of Anthon, Iowa; one son, Larry Bainbridge of Cherokee, Iowa; one brother, John "Jack" Bainbridge and his wife, Nancy of Smithland, Iowa; one sister, Phyllis Struble and her husband, LeRoy of Sioux City, Iowa; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Along with his wife, Owen was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Freddie Putzier, Jr. and Brandi Jean Bainbridge; a son-in-law, Fritz Putzier; and two brothers, Loren and Ward Bainbridge.
