Obituary for Opal Sand
Opal L. (Luckel) Sand went to her Lord and Savior Wednesday, May 6, 2015, as a resident of the Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville, Iowa. The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Anthon. Shirley Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon. Visitation will be at the church Monday after 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the service. Armstrong Funeral Home of Anthon is in charge of the arrangements. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Opal Lorraine Sand, the former Opal Lorraine Luckel was born on August 27, 1919 in Anthon, to George and Ruby (Waugh) Luckel. She married the love of her life Nicholas Perry Sand on September 29, 1937 in Sioux City, Iowa. Nick and Opal raised 5 children and farmed together in the Anthon area, until Nick's passing on March 13 1976. Opal loved her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being with her family, sewing, traveling and playing cards with friends and family. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Anthon. She enjoyed helping with the turkey dinner every year. She was a member of UMW, where she served on many committees. Opal had a strong faith in her Lord and Savior. Opal is survived by her children: Roger ( Beulah) Sand of Anthon, Roland (Ann) Sand of Orlando Florida, Karen (Ron) Heath of Long Beach California, Sharon Eickholt of Santa Maria Calif, Ron Eickholt of Santa Maria, California and Sheryl (Fidell) Wadsworth of Sioux City, Iowa. She has 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. ξShe is preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruby Luckel; her husband Nicholas Sand; an infant son Ronald; three brothers, George L Luckel, Norman Luckel, and Donald and wife Rita Luckel; and one sister Lucille Bohle and husband William.
