Obituary for Norma J. Jacobs
Norma Jean Jacobs passed away on August 5, 2017, in Mapleton, Iowa. She was born on November 3, 1928, to Fred and Ella (Ackelbien) Clausen on the family farm in Charter Oak, Iowa. A private family graveside was held on August 9, 2017, at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. The Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home in Mapleton was in charge of the arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. A light lunch will follow. Norma Jean and John were active members of St. Matthews while Norma Jean was specifically active in Home Bible Study and LWML.

Norma Jean grew up in Charter Oak and attended Charter Oak High School. On December 21, 1946, she married Loren Albertsen. To this union was born two daughters, Linda and Sandra. Loren served his country during WWII before passing away due to illness on August 21, 1986. The couple resided and worked in San Diego, California, Wichita, Kansas and Des Moines. Shortly after Loren’s passing, Norma Jean moved to Mapleton. On February 14, 1992, she married John O. Jacobs. Norma Jean and John enjoyed traveling to at least twenty WWII service reunions and several family gatherings/reunions plus making the rounds to the casinos. She and John often played pinochle and euchre with neighbors and close friends.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband John Jacobs of Danbury; daughters Linda Merrill of Mapleton and Sandra (Dennis) Kennedy of Urbandale; two grandchildren Cami and Cassandra Kennedy; four great grandchildren to include Sam Albertsen, Norma Jean, Pete and Luke McEntee; and sister Luella Braase of Schleswig, Iowa. Others survivors are her stepchildren Carol (Bruce) Burton, Tom Arndorfer, Joan (Kurt) Rutz, Dennis (Kim) Jacobs, Donald Jacobs and Patricia Jacobs, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Loren Albertsen; grandsons Micah Gosch and Loren Peters; her sister Phyllis Ernst and John’s second oldest child Catherine Arndorfer.

Norma J. Jacobs, the daughter of Fred and Ella (Ackelbien) Clausen was born on November 3, 1928, on the family farm in Charter Oak, Iowa. Norma grew up in Charter Oak where she attended Charter Oak High School.

On December 21, 1946, Norma married Loren Albertsen. To this union was born two daughters Linda and Sandra. Loren passed away due to illness on August 21, 1986. Shortly after the passing of her husband, Norma relocated to Mapleton, Iowa. On February 14, 1992, Norma married John Jacobs. Norma and John enjoyed traveling together and making the rounds to the casinos.
