Obituary for Matthew Everett Davis
Matthew Everett “Matt” Davis, age 31, of Castana, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, as the result of an auto accident in rural Monona County, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2017, at the Castana Community United Church of Christ of Castana, Iowa. Pastor Linda Boggs will officiate; with Committal Services following in the Kennebec Cemetery of Castana, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Matthew Everett “Matt” Davis, was born on November 17, 1986, to Robert Edward and Alice Margaret (Malone) Davis. Matt went to his eternal home on December 9, 2017, as the result of an accident in rural Monona County, Iowa.
Matt attended and graduated from West Monona Community High School with the class of 2005. He furthered his education by attending Western Iowa Community College in the areas of carpentry and became certified as an electrician. At a young age, Matt demonstrated his talent in woodworking by building a cart from lawn mower wheels. Without a ruler, he eyeballed and cut the correct lengths of wood for the cart. His grandfather chuckled over his talent many times. Matt demonstrated his skills as a mechanic, a farmhand, and was currently working at Lakeport Builders at CF Industries. He was eager to learn new and challenging work assignments.
Matt had many interests including fishing and boating with his beloved and cherished nephews and niece. Along with fishing and boating, Matt and his nephews enjoyed riding in the Kubota. He enjoyed motorcycle riding with his brother and mother as well as camping with family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory include his loving parents Bob and Alice Davis; sister Jessica Ann Davis (special friend Dusty Mathey) and her son Brayden Robert; brother Corey Russell (Angela Lyn) Davis and their sons Benjamin Russell and Joshua Andrew and baby daughter Emerie Lyn; paternal grandmother Benita J. Davis; paternal aunt Debra Dee Hahn; special childhood cousin Lindsay Leigh Hahn (Evan) Spencer; maternal uncles Lawrence (Paula) Malone, Ernest (Wendy) Malone, and Marco Malone (Velvet); numerous cousins, friends, and coworkers.
Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Russell E. Davis; maternal grandparents Samuel A. and Betty Jean Malone; cousin Lawrence Ladel Malone; aunt Theresa Rose Malone in infancy; and his special dog Slugo “Boo”.
