Obituary for Marlyn Y. Thompson
Marlyn Y. Thompson, 80, of Onawa, Iowa, and formerly of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Monday, July 13, 2015, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa. A private family service will be held at date in the near future with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Pastor Scott Jensen will officiate. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton has been entrusted with the services. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. ξMarlyn Yvonne Thompson was born January 16, 1935, in Regina, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Stanley and Alida (Bergersen) Engstrom. At the age of 16 they moved to Sioux City, Iowa. Marlyn later became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States in 1970's, which she was very proud of. In 1953, she married Gerald "Jerry" Anderson of Sioux City and they were blessed with six children. She liked to crochet, do crosswords, loved her cats, collecting angels, and had a love for music which included singing and playing her accordion and guitar. Most of all, however, she enjoyed caring for her children and family. Marlyn married George (Cheyenne) Thompson in 1984. He passed away in 1988. Survivors include her children, Chuck Anderson of Waterloo, Iowa, Tim (Teri) Anderson of Florida, Jim (Tina) Anderson of Whiting, Iowa, Teresa Bartels (Jim Flor) of Mapleton, Iowa and Brian Anderson of LeMars, Iowa; five grandchildren, Lisa (Shawn) McBride and three children, of Waterloo, Iowa, Laura (Josh) Mulnix and two children of Dyersville, Iowa, David Anderson of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Stephanie Anderson, and Christopher Anderson; and step daughter, Margie (Bert) Dimig of Charter Oak, Iowa and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George (Cheyenne) Thompson; brother Eldon; and son, Anthony in infancy.ξ
