Marilyn Ann McDole, the daughter of C. Basil and Rose (Doidge) Gibbs, was born on August 4, 1936, on the family’s Century Farm in rural Soldier, Iowa. She attended Hartigan Country School and in sixth grade went to school in Soldier where she was a member of the softball team and a boys’ basketball cheerleader. She exceled as a forward on the high school basketball team and attended a number of free throw contests. Marilyn graduated with the Soldier High School class of 1954. After graduation Marilyn moved to Omaha, NE and was employed at First National Bank of Omaha for five years.

On April 20, 1957, Marilyn was united in marriage to Roger W. McDole in Moorhead, IA. The couple was blessed with two children, Cheryl and Doug. In 1960, the family moved to a farm in rural Mapleton, IA where Roger and Marilyn were engaged in farming. In 1970, they moved to the family farm in rural Soldier where Marilyn remained until eventually moving to the town of Soldier. She was extremely proud of the fact that the farm had been a part of her family for over 100 years.

As a loving farmwife and homemaker, Marilyn was never too busy to attend one of her children’s many sporting events or steer shows while they showed cattle. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ute and then Charter Oak. Marilyn used to deliver Meals on Wheels in Soldier and was the caregiver for her mother for almost 20 years. Marilyn was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and loved her fur baby, Ms. Kitty.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughter Cheryl (Brad) Nickolisen of Moorhead, IA and son Doug McDole of Soldier, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents C. Basil and Rose Gibbs; husband Roger McDole; an infant brother Russell Gibbs; and her parents-in-law.
