Obituary for Marge Danner
Obituary Marge Danner Mapleton, Iowa - Marge Danner, 92, of Fremont, NE and formerly of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Nye Legacy Health and Rehab Center in Fremont. The funeral mass is Saturday, February 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Mapleton. Visitation will be Friday after 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary led by St. Mary's Guild at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Visitation resumes Saturday one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. The Fisher-Whiting Memorial Library, 609 Courtright Street, Mapleton, Iowa 51034, has been selected by the family to receive memorials in Marge's honor. Marjorie Jane Danner was born February 24, 1921, in Marion, North Dakota, the first child of Harold and Agnes (Olson) Crossman. She attended school in Jamestown. North Dakota and graduated from Valley City State Teachers College in Valley City, North Dakota with a teacher's certificate. She taught school for a short time in Minnesota. On August 9, 1942, Marge married her high school sweetheart, Ralph J. "Doc" Danner, in San Diego, California. They settled in Mapleton, Iowa in 1957, where they raised their eight children. Doc served the community as an optometrist at the Danner Eye Clinic with the support of Marge at home. They retired in Palm Desert, California in 1985. After Doc's passing in 1994, Marge moved to Fremont, Nebraska in 1995. She has lived there until her passing. While in Fremont, Marge was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where she was active with the Catholic Daughters. While in Mapleton, she was very active at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Guild, and Willow Dale Golf Club Women's League. Other interests she enjoyed throughout her adult life were playing bridge, skiing, golfing, sewing, and quilting. She was an avid college sports fan especially of Creighton University and the University of Nebraska. Above all, she was the biggest fan of her children and their lives. Survivors include five sons and two daughters, David of Iowa City, IA, Ronald (Audrey) of Craig, CO, Larry of Los Angeles, CA, Judi Danner Bowden (Jim) of Sonoma, CA, Deb Klein (Ron) of Coon Rapids, MN, Doug (Linda) of New Port Beach, CA, and Joe (Deb) of Omaha, NE; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one brother, Jim Crossman of Post Falls, ID; along with other extended family members. Along with her husband, Marge was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daniel Danner; a grandson Ryan Danner; two granddaughters Mary and Jessica Klein; and two brothers, David and Harold "Bud" Crossman.
